Jasmine & wildflowers

So last year for Valentines day Dustin bought me a vining Jasmine plant and I wanted to eventually get it planted next to our fence in the front so that it could vine along its way. Of course my green thumb is still learning and I thought I had killed it when I transplanted it a few weeks after receiving it.

This is what it look liked when I first got it
Stock photo not my actual plant

It wasn't long until the leaves all dried out turned brown and the flowers all wilted and fell off.
But, something happened this last few months I found new vines growing!!

Now I don't know if transplanting it again will hurt it again I tried to be a lot more careful with it this time and used root stimulator and will be giving it plenty of TLC along the next few weeks to boosts it growth.

So here is some pictures of what I have left of my plant and some more pictures of wildflowers that have grown along my fence line!

Start the the longer vine up the post

Well, the veggie gardens kaput But, I have a wildflower!

The reason it's been so long since I wrote here is because simply we have failed yet again to keep the darn grass out of our garden. :o/ I KNOW all the things we needed to do but, since we didn't have the cash for all that we were hoping some good old fashioned elbow grease and time would suffice. Lesson learned. It doesn't

Although the corn is growing beautifully the grass around it is thriving just as well. We did randomly throw the left over seeds in a circle pit we have and the pumpkins corn & onions are doing pretty well there. But, I have no hope for them because of how much room they will need once they really start going.

But, with all that bad news comes some good. My wild flowers are finally starting to sprout!! And the rose bush that someone chopped down (WTF?) has new flowers too :o)

Here some pictures to enjoy!

This rose bush was HUGE until someone cut it down :o(

Whoa that was fast!!

We already have growth of some of our plants! I didn't think they were even growing yet I swear I just checked them a few days ago. But, today Dustin told me he needed to hurry up and get the garden tilled so he could plant them.. When I went to see just how big they were I was shocked!

So now we start the transition from the darkroom to the light room  (AKA outside :o)

And today we began to till, well he did!

Today was an awesome day for getting the yard ready for what will hopefully be a very productive year for our garden(S). Yep gardens! We have decided to split up our seeds into 3 separate gardens

1. My Autumn garden
  • Corn
  • Jack o lanterns
  • 1 or 2 GIANT pumpkins
  • & my special treat to me Fairytale pumpkins!
2. Dustins not so traditional vegetable garden
  • Chili peppers
  • 2 kinds of tomatoes
  • 2 kinds of onions
  • 2 kinds of beans
  • & maybe a pumpkin or two
3. Ethans Garden
  • Snap peas
  • Jack-o lantern
  • Watermelon
  • Birdhouse gourd
  • Sunflower
  • 1 GIANT pumpkin
  • & a few stalks of corn!
But, we are no where close to getting the planting started but I think we got a pretty good start of it today!
Let me add that along with the not planting sooner fail. We also failed at removing the grass properly and unless you knew better you wouldn't know there was ever a garden in our back yard! The grass grew back like it had never been tilled, dug up or planted in!
Yep, he's re-tilling the garden from last year! We are awesome at growing grass!

In addition to the getting the garden started we also purchased a couple more compost bins. Our original one purchased last year got chewed on and dug at by a dog and we thought it was toast since the side was half hanging off. Turns out it just needed to be snapped back together and positioned somewhere more sturdy! So instead of 2 we have 3 compost bins. Which is fine by us! We can never have enough compost for all the planting & growing we are hoping to do over the next several years!
We thought our original one was too busted up but, it looks like we have 3 now!
So all in all it was a really good day and  we got a good head start into the planting season (We hope!)
My Autumn garden is 1 quarter tilled! It will go to the apple tree.

Speaking of that apple tree! I am happy to say. One thing we planted last year survived the cold, the wind storms & our apparent lack of green thumbs!! We have new buds growing on our tree!
Our family apple tree!
So, I think if things can continue the way they have been going this week, we have a pretty good chance of something else surviving this growing season! We shall see!

Thanks for reading!

The seeds have been planted!

We got our first try at the seedling starter kits and it was pretty easy and fun! Dan even planted a few pumpkins after he wondered into the kitchen to see what we were up to!

Adding the water
Planting the seeds
Dans arm planting a pumpkin
Dustin  is very particular when it comes to things like this!
Proof point this is my mess of a seedling start set
And this would be his! lol
All in all it was quick easy and fun! I'm glad we didn't do the other route which was to purchase separate dirt pots and plastic holder! This way was also A LOT cheaper!

We bought our seeds!!

We decided this year to start our seeds early and indoors since last year our pumpkins & corn failed miserably. Last year it wasn't until it was too late that we found out (and quite rudely I might add by more experienced gardeners) that we shouldn't have used the directions on the back of the package! Who knew? Not us we are brand new to growing our own food! We of course did not let that stop us from not only trying again but, going bigger and more. We picked some of our favorites and added a few.. You never know what will happen unless you try and so here is our assortment of seeds for this year!

We also decided our youngest could learn a lot from growing a few things in his own little personal garden!
He will be planting some of the seeds from above in his garden as well as these three!

I can not wait for everything to start growing!
